What GAD-7 measures

GAD-7 is an adult self-report screening questionnaire developed by Spitzer, Kroenke, Williams and Löwe in 2006. It covers worry, tension, restlessness, irritability and apprehension.

How scoring works

Add seven answers scored 0–3. Total: 0–21. Conventional symptom ranges are 0–4 minimal, 5–9 mild, 10–14 moderate and 15–21 severe. There are no reverse-scored items.

About GAD-7

Does a score of 10 mean I have a disorder?

No. It suggests that a professional assessment may be useful; a diagnosis needs a broader evaluation.

Does a low score mean I do not need help?

No. Persistent symptoms or difficulties in daily life deserve attention at any score.
